Context of the service

The agricultural cooperative GICET N'sia Mala Mala (Cooperative and Economic Interest Group of the "terroir" Teke) was founded in 2014 in the Territory of Kwamouth (District of Plateaux, Bandundu Province.
This cooperative operates on a landscape mixing shrub savannahs and gallery forests. It aims to strengthen the land tenure security of its members, in accordance with the customary land tenure system and in accordance with established Congolese law on land, agriculture, trade and industry.
Its operationalization began in 2015 and aims at the following objectives: identification and mapping of customary lands managed by the cooperative; estimation of their agricultural potential and their market and non-market value; valuation of the cooperative's share capital; Update of the cooperative's statutes.

Services provided

From March 2015 to September 2015, the following services were provided:
- Mapping of 10,500 ha of land potentially securitizable by the cooperative;
- Land use analysis with Landsat 8 satellite imagery in 2014 and Spot 5 in 2010, with technical support from JRC Ispra;
- Estimation of changes in forest carbon stocks from 2010 to 2014 in the cooperative's area of influence,
- Assessment of limiting factors (water availability, accessibility, etc.) and suitability of land for agroforestry;
- Development of a business plan for the period 2015-2027, including the installation of agroforestry plantations, product harvesting, processing, transportation, marketing and income related to the sale of products;
- Revision of the statutes and evaluation of community capital.

Summary of the service

Support for the operationalization of the GICET N'sia mala mala mala agroforestry cooperative, in the Territory of Kwamouth (Bandundu Province): Mapping and preparation of the land securitization process on 10,500 ha of customary land ceded to the cooperative; Multi-criteria zoning of land (soil fertility, presence of natural vegetation, water availability, traditional land rights, etc.); Realization of the 2015-2027 business plan; Revaluation of share capital and statutes.
