Through the VIGICLIMM project, AFD supports SODEXAM's capacity building in order to improve the quality of meteorological and climate services provided to users and to develop the sales of meteorological products and data.
AFD's Adapt'Action facility brings additional support on the agricultural component, as provision of accurate weather and climate data is key to enabling farmers to adapt to the new climatic conditions.
It is in this context that the present study was launched to "assess the state of SODEXAM's agro-meteorological services and make institutional, regulatory, economic and operational recommendations to develop these services and facilitate the adaptation of Ivorian agriculture to the effects of climate change".
SalvaTerra has been particularly in charge of the following activities:
- Realization of an inventory of meteorological observation stations and mapping of the observation network at the national level: 561 georeferenced and characterized stations; exportable data in the Clidata software; map production; dedicated report;
- Inventory of the agro-meteorological services developed by SODEXAM, interprofessional sectors, NGOs, research centres and the private sector in ivory Coast; comparison of services with peer entities in the sub-region; dedicated report;
- Assessment of the demand for agro-meteorological services: analysis of agricultural users' needs; proposition of agro-meteorological services in the cashew, cotton and rice sectors; Organization of a national workshop and production of a dedicated report.
