Context of the service
French wood and forestry professionals have been facing a paradoxical situation for several years: on the one hand, they are stigmatized by a certain part of public opinion, which associates logging with nature destruction; on the other hand, the attractiveness of wood for various uses (construction, energy, packaging, etc.) keeps increasing.
This paradox shows the population's lack of knowledge and contradictions, as the general public does not always link environmental preservation and its consumption patterns, and does not always have a good understanding of challenges in sustainable forest management.
Based on these findings, France Bois Forêt (FBF) commissioned an independent analysis to (i) assess the coherence, effectiveness and impact of its funded programmes over the period 2019-2021 with regard to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030; (ii) use the results to communicate with its members and the general public.
Services provided
The services provided were as follows:
- Quantitative assessment of the alignment of the 321 FBF programmes on the period 2019-2022 with the 2030 SDGs, and the French translation of these SDGs into Sustainable Development Issues (SDI);
- Detailed qualitative assessment of three flagship programmes' alignment with the SDGs and SDI;
- Formulation of recommendations for the continued consideration of the SDGs and SDI by FBF;
- Technical study report and summary for the general public;
- Restitution of the results to FBF members.
