In Benin, about 50% of energy needs are met by wood energy. This massive use of wood energy has serious consequences for the resource and therefore for the environment and the populations that depend on it. Given the growing need for cooking energy and the lack of quality standards for biomass cookers on the market, PASE seeks to support the "improved cookstoves" sector in defining a framework guaranteeing the quality of cookers available on the market and making it possible to communicate effectively on the properties of the various cooking equipment. Thus, PASE has recruited SalvaTerra to prepare the development of a standard for the cooking equipment sector in Benin, by first analysing the ecosystem linked to the cooking equipment sector and by proposing the guidelines of the new standard .
- Inventory of the wood-energy cooking sector in Benin (downstream sector surveys - distributors-retailers and users, upstream surveys and visits - manufacturers, visits to test laboratories, financial investigations, etc.)
- Study of standardization initiatives in other African countries
- Design of the standard application mechanism
Study on the preliminary draft of standards and proposal of a strategy for the organization of the "improved cookstoves" (AF) sector within the framework of the Energy Services Improvement Project (PASE): Analysis of the AF sector and uses (household surveys in two of the country's main urban centers, market and regulatory study), proposals for the guidelines of the new standard for Biomass AF.
